What is this Slumberland?

Slumberland was the project name given to PEI's Online Reservation System. You will probably hear people refer to this system as simply the "Online Reservation System".

Where is the old vacancy board?

The online reservation system replaces the out-dated vacancy board. You will no longer be able to telephone in with your ID and PIN number to announce your vacancies.

What was wrong with the old vacancy board?

The old vacancy board system was tapped to its capacity and although it was adequate for the past number of years, it lacked features that visitors have become to expect from a vacancy service. One of the main issues was that visitors did not know the type of accommodation that was available, rather just that a vacancy was available. The new system will elaborate on the type of vacancies that are available including photographs and written descriptions.

How do I register for the new online reservation system?

You can contact Harma at 902-892-0932 for a training session. Training sessions are held numerous times per week and there will be some regional training sessions as well. Watch for advertisements in the newspaper, newsletters from TIAPEI or check back on this web site.

Do I need a computer?

Yes, you will need a computer to use this system. Any computer bought in the last 4 years will be fine. You do not need the latest and greatest computer to run the online reservation system. Currently you can purchase a complete computer system for prices starting at $599. We are working on providing a discounted rate for computers. Details will be announced on this web site when available.

Do I need to be connected to the internet?

Yes, however you only need to connect to the internet when making a reservation. If you have a separate phone line you would benefit from being connected throughout the business day. Unlimited internet accounts are roughly $25/month.

Can people still see my vacancies if my computer is not turned on?

Yes, the online reservation system uses a central database and all your vacancies will be available regardless if your computer is turned on or not.

What about occupancy reporting?

The new system will automatically do the occupancy reporting for you on a monthly basis. Once you have reviewed the report, you can click a "submit" button and your occupancy report will be automatically sent to Tourism PEI.
